Governor Gina Raimondo Urges Support of Family Service of RI’s “Be Safe Kits”
PROVIDENCE, RI, March 26, 2020- In her afternoon press conference on Thursday (March 26, 2020), Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo asked for donations for Family Service of Rhode Island’s “Be Safe Kits,” to help needy Rhode Islanders prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“The economic impacts here are devastating and are starting to be hard-felt by many families,” she said. “There are many, many vulnerable families who are really struggling. Struggling to buy food, struggling to buy disinfectant wipes, struggling to pay the rent, struggling in so many ways.
“Family Service of Rhode Island is putting together kits and items such as disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer and they’re arranging pickup and delivery of these kits for families in need.” She urged individuals and companies today to text BESAFE to 44321 to make a donation, or to call Family Service of Rhode Island or visit www.familyserviceri.org/besafe.
Be Safe Kits also include food, paper products and more, depending on need and availability. They’re distributed by Family Service of Rhode Island’s AmeriCorps Program.
“We are most thankful for the Governor’s support,” said Margaret Holland McDuff, Family Service of Rhode Island’s CEO. “We launched ‘Be Safe’ in early March, and we’ve already helped hundreds of Rhode Islanders in need. Thank you to our donors, and many thanks to all who will be responding to Governor Raimondo today to donate.”
