“GRAB AND GO” SCHOOL BREAKFAST

PepsiCo Foundation Supports Providence Area School in Honor of National School Breakfast Week

Did you know it’s National School Breakfast Week? In the U.S., around 30 million students qualify for free or reduced cost lunches, and for many students, school is often the only place where they can depend on receiving a nutritious meal.

However, rushed morning schedules, late bus arrivals and the social stigma of picking up a school breakfast in the cafeteria often prevents students from getting a healthy meal.

To address these barriers, The PepsiCo Foundation and youth wellness nonprofit GENYOUth are funding Dartmouth High School for “grab-n-go” breakfast carts this week, which will provide students with convenient, healthy breakfast options for the rest of the year.

The Facts:

In the U.S., more than 11 million children live in food-insecure households.

Around 30 million students in the U.S. qualify for free or reduced cost lunches.

Dartmouth High School is receiving “grab-n-go” carts that offer fresh fruit, cereal, muffins, bagels and yogurt and other healthy breakfast options.

Each cart will provide approximately 99,000 breakfasts over the course of a school year.

Since 2017, PepsiCo and GENYOUth have funded “grab-n-go” breakfast carts at 112 schools in the U.S., providing 11 million meals and reaching more than 60,000 students.
