The Four Corners Arts Center is pleased to present classical guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto on Sunday March 1 at 2:00 PM at the Meeting House.Tickets are $15 in advance online or by phone and $20 at the door. The Pre-Concert Workshop starts at 12:00-1:30 PM and is $30 in advance and $40 at the door. All pre-concert workshop participants get free admission to concert.
Hiroya Tsukamoto is a guitarist and composer originally from Kyoto, Japan. Blending world music, jazz and folk, Tsukamoto has been described as eclectic, immersive and mesmerizing; his music will take the audience on an innovative , impressionistic journey filled with earthy, organic soundscapes that impart a mood of peace and tranquility.
He began playing banjo when he was thirteen years old. In 2000, he received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music and came to the US. Since then, he has been performing internationally. This included appearances with his group at Blue Note in New York and released five albums as a leader.
He recently performed on Japanese National TV program (NHK-TV). Hiroya has developed unique acoustic music which is sometimes described as “Cinematic acoustic music”
In addition to a concert, Mr. Tsukamoto will be offering a pre-concert workshop from 12:00-1:30. This workshop will demonstrate finger-style techniques including chords and basic theory. Using his compositions as an example, Hiroya will demonstrate how to start composing an original guitar piece.
Learn the elements of song structure, including intros, verses, choruses, bridges and outro, and how to distill a composition down to its essence.
Hiroya will cover how to practice on a daily basis to improve your skills, an effective way to practice. He breaks down different elements of music such as tone, rhythm, and explains how to apply this to your regular daily practice routine.
The intent of this process is to help improve practice techniques for musicians who may not take regular lessons. The cost of the workshop is $30 in advance and $40 at the door and comes with free admission to the concert.
