PAWTUCKET ART COLLABORATIVE: CALL FOR ARTISTS

Call for Artists — Political Art Pop Up Show

Dear Artists,

In the past year, two pieces of my work have offended someone, and I have had to remove them from a public space. To be honest, I can see why one might be triggering for some people, but the other (an American flag made with red neckties) is a legitimate commentary on our current situation.

So, I have decided to plan an exhibit of art (all media) that expresses a social or political position or opinion. And I am asking you to be a participant in what is tentatively called the Political Popup Gallery

Luckily, I am the popup exhibition coordinator for the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative. I’ve been tasked with finding artists or groups to hang one or two-weekend shows throughout the winter.

Here’s my plan: Find ten or twelve artists who have political art they would like to display. Assign a section of gallery wall (or floor) to each of them, and have them hang it however they wish. All media are possible, although video may be problematic. Hang it on Friday afternoon, an opening event Friday evening and/or Saturday, gallery open most of Saturday and Sunday, taking it down Sunday evening. Plans are made to be changed, of course, so if you have ideas or suggestions, I’m open.

The dates for the PAC Gallery are Jan 31 (hang) to Feb 3 (for takedown)
Opening festivities Saturday evening

But first we need artists!  If you are interested, let me know! If you know someone who might be, let them know.

Thanks
Robert Easton
