R.I. Department of Education
The quality of our schools impacts everyone. Students deserve a world-class education. Parents need to feel confident that their child is being set up for success. Educators want a safe, supportive, empowering workplace where they can do their best work for kids.
But this isn’t just an issue for those with a direct role in classrooms.
The entire state is stronger when our education system is flourishing, and that includes our partners in industry. In order for businesses to thrive and grow here, they need a skilled, educated workforce. Supporting education is the right thing to do, and it’s also the smart thing to do.
So when I met Jim Boscov, Chairman and CEO of Boscov’s Department Store, and we got to talking about education, I was thrilled, though not surprised, to hear that he wanted his company to get involved. Boscov’s opened its first Rhode Island location at the Providence Place Mall earlier this year, and with a local connection in our capital city, they’ve made a generous offer to support Providence schools this holiday season.
This Sunday, December 8, customers will have the opportunity to make a $5 donation to Providence schools, and will in turn receive 25% off their purchase that day only. The discount coupons will be available for sale at Boscov’s on December 8. Our friends at Boscov’s are also interested in having volunteers to help promote and sell the coupons on Sunday. Volunteers will serve in two-hour shifts and will be stationed at tables throughout the store. If you are interested in volunteering to help support this effort, contact Johanna Corcoran at Boscov’s at jcorcoran@boscovs.com.
This is a fantastic example of how industry can be a partner in our effort to improve education in Rhode Island, and hopefully just one of many more examples to come.
Please join us at Boscov’s this Sunday to show your support and get some holiday shopping done at the same time!
