It’s waiting on Governor Baker’s desk.
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
When we organize, we win.
The Massachusetts Legislature unanimously passed our nation-leading model for education funding equity yesterday — and now, it’s on the Governor’s desk waiting to be signed.
This is a historic victory that our coalition of students, parents, educators, advocates, and organizers has spent years fighting for. The bill includes all 5 recommendations of the bipartisan Foundation Budget Review Commission, including the full recommendations and the full low-income rate.
The provisions in this bill weren’t politically easy, and getting here was never certain. But we always knew this was the right goal — and a diverse coalition of Democrats, Republicans, teachers unions, charter school advocates, parent groups, student organizers, civil rights advocates, and local officials all agreed.
This legislation stands as our generation’s commitment to uphold our core promise in Massachusetts: that every child will get a quality education. And that zip code will not be destiny.
Saludos,
Sonia Chang-Díaz
