PAWTUCKET LED CONVERSION

City’s LED Street Light Conversion Underway

PAWTUCKET MAYOR DON GREBIEN

Pawtucket – The City of Pawtucket has announced that the LED street light conversion by Siemens is underway with over 10% of the 6,000 city street lights having been converted already. The Department of Public Works anticipates that all work, which will make Pawtucket cleaner and greener, will be completed by the end of January.

The City asks that residents please bear with the Department of Public Works as the conversions are ongoing and thanks the community for their patience throughout the change. If a streetlight is out, please contact DPW at 401-728-0500 Ext. 233 or via email at dpw@pawtucketri.com.

Please note that DPW is trying to prioritize as many calls from residents as possible. Any lights that are out will be evaluated on a case by case basis throughout the conversion process as each individual light change costs an average of over $500 to the taxpayers should it be done prior to the scheduled LED conversion. The Pawtucket Police and Department of Public Works will follow an internal process to ensure that any light that is out and deemed a danger is replaced immediately.

In conjunction with the Office of Energy Resource (OER), DPW conducted audits to the City’s facilities, including city street lights, and was approved to replace the lights by converting them from high pressure sodium bulbs to LED.

With this conversion, the City will save approximately $5 million dollars in energy savings over the next thirteen (13) years, the average lifetime of the LED bulbs. Furthermore, the City will also receive rebates from National Grid and OER following the conversions.
