“BRONX JAZZ”

Attleboro Public Library and Oversoul Collective present “BRONX JAZZ: A Conversation Between Father & Son”

Thursday, November 14, 6:30 p.m. in the Marble Lobby

“BRONX JAZZ” is a performance piece combining theater, spoken-word and poetry with live jazz and hip-hop. Written and performed by the father – son duo of Mwalim & ZYG 808, the storyline is built around the average day in a household where both father and son are musicians and reflective of their generational concepts of jazz and hip-hop, but recognizing it all as a tradition. The show was developed through the recently re-introduced Oversoul Theatre Collective artist’s lab, which also developed the experiential musical “The Soul Session”, currently running at the Governor Bradford in Provincetown, MA on Saturday nights.

The ZYG 808 is a 2-time Grammy nominated Hip-Hop Jazz Artist; an accomplished Jazz drummer, songwriter, MC, and vibraphonist who headlined the Boston Jazz Fest at age 11. His upcoming mixtape/album “BooMBAPJAzz” features his musical prowess as well as his skills in production and will be released on his own label, Soul Poets Records. Mwalim is a seasoned artist with a long resume and a new novel coming out in November entitled LAND of the BLACK SQUIRRELS, which is book one of a series called the “Bronx Boheme” by Lit Noire Publishing.

Oversoul Theatre Collective (OTC) is a 25 year-old, non-profit, professional performing and media arts organization, with a focus on developing and presenting high quality works, primarily by and about Black and Native American people.
