WEAVER: “FOUR LEGS TO STAND ON”

Powerful play about addiction to be performed at the Weaver Library

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Last fall, Weaver Library had standing room only for the powerful drama Four Legs to Stand On, a play that strives to bring addiction awareness to the mainstream and begin a community conversation about the opioid crisis. The East Providence Public Library and the East Providence Prevention Coalition are proud to work together again to present  the second act of the play Four Legs to Stand On at the Weaver Library on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 7 pm.

In Four Legs to Stand OnAct II audiences pull up a seat again beside the character Sam struggling with addiction; this time in group therapy. The play exposes the successes of recovery and the heartbreak of relapse.  Audiences get a glimpse of the relationship between patients, therapists, and peers. The play dives head first into the realities of a cast of characters fighting for their lives.

“This is a one-of-a-kind production that brings people together and gives Rhode Islanders a unique and powerful platform to discuss addiction and its impact on our communities” stated Lt. Governor McKee.

The Act II performance is 60 minutes, followed by 20-minute talk-back with the playwright and cast. Audiences don’t need to see Act I to understand Act II.

Four Legs to Stand On, Act II is a production of COAAST- Creating Outreach About Addiction Support Together- a RI based organization founded by Ana Bess Moyer Bell. COAAST’s mission is to eradicate the opioid epidemic through arts-based educational, therapeutic, and community driven approaches.

Representatives from several RI organizations focused on addiction recovery will be available before and after the play with information and additional resources.

Weaver Library is located at 41 Grove Avenue, East Providence, RI.  This program is free and open to all, however seating is limited.
