BIG NEWS:
The Education Committee released a long-sought education funding reform bill — and it’s thanks to years of persistent broad-based organizing from people across the Commonwealth.
The proposed bill would implement all five recommendations of the Foundation Budget Review Commission, including the much-needed rate adjustments for our most impoverished students.
This is what momentous, generational progress looks like in education and economic justice. The bill honors the promise we made in our constitution, and again in the 1993 Education Reform Act, to provide every child with the resources they need for a quality education. It meets the overwhelming public consensus for equity and incorporates the bulk of provisions from the Education PROMISE Act.
This step is an enormous victory for justice. But the work is not yet done. The bill still must make it through both chambers and the Governor’s desk.
Your advocacy has carried the bill this far — and we must be steadfast in securing the equity provisions in the final law.
I look forward to standing with you to restore our Commonwealth’s promise this year!
