SUMMER WILDFLOWER LOVERS
STORY BY DON DOUCETTE
For you wildflower lovers – a classic stand of tall summer blooming Joe-Pye-weed is situated along the Ten Mile River in Attleboro. Easily observed from an automobile while parked along Riverfront Drive near the Olive Street end – across from the former river oxbow dumping area now being prepared for redevelopment.
Joe-Pye-weed flower heads consisting of old-rose or lavender hues are broad blooming in communal natural settings while attracting a multitude of bee types and humming birds.
Joe- Pye-weed can be found for sale in some larger landscape firms and are most suitable for planting in sunny-moist locations of suburbia.
Joe Pye is said to have been an Indian medicine-man.
