The City of Pawtucket Announces Free Refreshments at Multiple Sites

Pawtucket – The City of Pawtucket has announced that, due to the heat wave expected throughout the weekend, Mayor Donald R. Grebien, the Pawtucket City Council, Pawtucket School Committee, and the Pawtucket Police Department will be providing free lemonade and water to residents of Pawtucket at multiple locations throughout the city.

 

 

“It is going to be extremely hot out there and we want to ensure that everyone is safe and hydrated during these conditions,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “Offering free refreshments is part of the overall plan to keep everyone cool during this time. The hope is to bring awareness to all of our residents of the danger of heat and to ask that everyone take the proper precautions.”

 

 

Free lemonade and water will be distributed from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday July 20, 2019 at four different locations:

 

The Veterans Memorial Park Pool through L&J Ice Cream

 

Len’s Hotdog Haven at Slater Park

 

Payne Park through Palagi’s Ice Cream and Lemonade

 

John Street Playground through Palagi’s Ice Cream and Lemonade

 

 

The Veterans Memorial Park Pool will be open extended hours from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All senior residents 65 and older will be allowed entrance free of charge throughout the weekend.

 

 

The Payne Park Splash Pad is also open 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

 

The City has taken other precautions for the heat wave including opening up the Leon Mathieu Senior Center to serve as a cooling center during special hours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

Below, are the locations of the cooling centers are:

 

The Leon Mathieu Senior Center at 420 Main Street is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

The Blackstone Valley Visitor Center at 175 Main Street is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

The Pawtucket Police Department Headquarters lobby at 121 Roosevelt Avenue is available 24 hours every day.

 

The Pawtucket Public Library at 13 Summer Street is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.

 

The Library is also a free summer meal site for children from Monday to Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

 

Kennedy Manor located at 175 Broad Street is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

St. Germain Manor located at 401 Mineral Spring Avenue is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
