RI REPUBLICAN PARTY CHALLENGES THE VOTER REGISTRATION OF RAIMONDO APPOINTEE TO THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
The Rhode Island Republican Party has filed a challenge at the Barrington Board of Canvassers against the voter registration and eligibility of Governor Gina Raimondo’s appointee to lead the RI Public Utilities Commission (PUC).
Appointee Laura Olton is a Massachusetts resident who registered to vote at her cousin’s house in Barrington last month shortly after it was flagged by the Providence Journal that she was not a qualified elector in the State of Rhode Island.
RI GOP Chairwoman Sue Cienki commented: “The law is clear that a PUC appointee must be a qualified elector in the State of Rhode Island. Laura Olton is clearly not a domiciled resident of Barrington which means that her registration to vote from her cousin’s house on or about June 17, 2019 is invalid and she should be declared ineligible to be a qualified elector.”
Cienki concluded: “The Rhode Island Republican Party has zero tolerance for potential voter fraud which is why we look forward to this matter being heard expeditiously by the Board of Canvassers and/or the Board of Elections.
There is not much of a difference between a State Representative pulling a shirt over his head and a PUC Nominee who registers to vote from a place where she admitted she had no intent to remain…. Both are not qualified to vote from their declared addresses.
