Rhode Island Chinese Dragon Boat Races

The Rhode Island Chinese Dragon Boat Races are sanctioned races with the Eastern Regional Dragon Boat Association
Registration includes:
- team tent,
- official 2019 t-shirts and medals,
- practice sessions, and
- training session with a professional dragon boat coach from 22 Dragons– the 2017 Canadian National Champion Team!
Our races are unique as they continue to use the fiberglass Taiwanese-style dragon boats gifted from the Republic of China (Taiwan) and incorporate the skill of flag-catching in each race. Each team will race in both a “big boat” race & “small boat” race. The finals will be in our classic “big boats”. The Rhode Island Chinese Dragon Boat Races also offer large cash prizes!
Dragon Final
1st Place: $5,000 and championship trophy

3rd Place: Entry into 2019 Boston Dragon Boat Races and trophy
Lion Final
1st Place: $2,000 donated to the team’s charity of choice

The traditional boats have a total capacity of 23 people; twenty paddlers, one drummer, one flag catcher, and one steersperson. These will be referred to as the “Big Boat”
The new boats have a total capacity of 15 people; twelve paddlers, one drummer, one flag catcher, and one steers person. The new boat will be referred to as the “Small Boat”.
You will register ONE TEAM, with a maximum of 26 people on your roster, to compete.
Teams must have a minimum of 8 female PADDLERS for the BIG boats and a minimum of 6 female PADDLERS for the SMALL boats.
All teams will race in two qualifying heats and one final.
The first qualifying heat will be in the BIG boat.
The second qualifying heat will be in the SMALL boat.
The final will be in the BIG boat.
