Cranston, RI. June 11, 2019-The RI Society of CPAs (RISCPA) will hold a graduation ceremony and networking reception on June 19 for college students who have completed a workforce training program run by the RI Society of CPAs. The first of its kind 4-week training collaborative is aimed at increasing the workforce skills of college juniors and seniors in RI pursuing jobs in accounting and financial services. The first cohort launched on May 28 and is part of the Accounting and Financial Collaborative, composed of the RI Society, Rhode Island’s leading accounting firms including BlumShapiro, DiSanto, Priest & Co., Piccerelli, Gilstein & Co., LLP, Sansiveri, Kimball & Co., LLP as well as TD Bank. Rhode Island College is participating as the organizational partner. The effort is part of the state’s RealJobsRI workforce training initiative; RISCPA became the first state society in the U.S. to apply for and receive a workforce training grant. The graduation ceremony is being held at The Imperial Room at One Rhodes Place, Cranston at 12:00 Noon.

The students, drawn from local colleges in RI and southeastern Mass., were taught soft skills development in areas such as public speaking and presentations, social media usage, thought leadership, business development and sales, personal branding, marketing, networking, project management, financial literacy and other workforce skills.

“RISCPA is determined to become a central partner to firms in the accounting and finance sectors and positively impact the state’s efforts to enhance the skill readiness of young people entering the job pipeline of these professions,” says RISCPA President Melissa Travis. “We are confident that not only will these students benefit from the additional skills our program provided them, but the firms will benefit as new young professionals with enhanced skills become their employees.” Several of the students have received offers during the training.

RISCPA plans to host the second workforce skills training program for students during the January 2020 winter school break; registration is now open.
