THE EXPO

Dear Neighbor,

Research shows us what a child does during their summer vacation matters. In Providence, healthy activities, mixed with summer educational and employment opportunities, create a robust, season-long programming calendar for our youth. To learn about the enriching summer opportunities available this year, we encourage families to attend the fourth annual

Eat, Play, Learn PVD Summer Opportunities Expo

at the Providence Career and Technical Academy (41 Fricker Street) on Saturday, April 6, from 10 AM-1 PM.

The Expo is a free, family-friendly event that includes fun activities for kids, offers light refreshments, and includes raffle prizes.

From $5 per week recreation camps, to programs administered by local non-profit organizations and businesses, the event is the perfect opportunity to learn about how your child can stay engaged and continue to learn and grow this break.

We held the first summer expo in 2016 in an effort to address the summer learning loss our students face.

A report showed that 60 percent of Providence students suffered from summer learning loss in reading and 51 percent in math. To combat these trends, we now offer one central location for community members to easily connect with summer providers.

Our efforts to support our young residents during this critical time period have received great recognition.

In 2018, our Eat, Play, Learn PVD initiative received a Childhood Obesity Prevention Award, which included a $25,000 grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors to expand access to summer programming.

Make sure to join us to find out how your child can ave fun, stay active and continue to learn so that they can return to school ready to succeed.
