ABOUT THE LETTERS: WEAVER LIBRARY

The Gift of a Letter

 F WEAVER edited

Emails and texts have their place. But so do hand-written letters, those precious stamped rarities slipped through a mail slot to be lifted, examined, ripped open, unfolded, touched, smelled and  savored, and tucked away to be re-read later.

Weaver Library invites you to write a letter of appreciation to someone in your life (a friend or family member, a neighbor, a service person, a good Samaritan) using pen and paper, on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. All materials, including stamps, will be provided.

The average American household receives just 10 personal pieces of mail each year, according to The New York Times.

We will briefly discuss the history of letter writing and ideas for organizing a letter, and then write our own letters of appreciation, sharing thoughts on the experience as we sit together. It will be fun and laughter is anticipated!

Betsy Shea-Taylor, a literacy tutor, former journalist and the moderator of Weaver’s Socrates Cafes, will guide the program.

To register please call Joyce May at (401) 434-2453 or register online at eastprovidencelibrary.org.

This program is free and open to all, however space is limited.

Weaver Library is located at 41 Grove Avenue, East Providence, RI 02914.
