The North Attleborough High School Theatre Company will present its 47th Annual One Act Play Festival on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 7:00 pm, in the Judith E. Cobb Theatre. Three plays will be presented.
“That’s Not How I Remember It,” by Don Zolidis, is directed by senior Nicole Toppses, assistant directed by senior Darian Soderquist, and advised by Mr. Christopher Kibbe. This flashback comedy follows the story of how a Mom and Dad, named Barry and Lola, met in 1986. However the Mom, played by junior Meara Curran, and Dad, played by freshman Isaac Eliason, can’t seem to agree. The Dad reminisces on his glory days, and tells a story similar to an 80’s action movie. In his rendition, a suave young Barry, played by junior Bailey Hobbs, tries to win the beautiful young Lola, played by junior Sarina Bell, from her evil boyfriend Karl. As the perspective switches, the mom tells her version of the story, a cheesy romantic comedy in which a then dorky Barry competes with a Finnish foreign exchange student for the love of Lola. With all of the music, costumes, and pop culture references, the audience is sure to be feeling 80’s nostalgia and laughing out loud through this ridiculous comedy.
“Have You Seen Gizmo?” is a one-act drama written and directed by junior Will Redding and sophomore Hadley Mantia and advised by Mr. Alexander Hatzberger. The story follows the life of Adam Hansen, played by sophomore Elvis Young, a man who has lost all memory of his past. He develops a strange relationship with a lost dog poster that he managed to remember through all of his memory loss. Adam’s condition strains the relationships in his life with his wife and daughter, who struggle to cope with Adam’s lost memory. At the same time, Amelia Peters, portrayed by senior Sarah Robinson, develops a different form of amnesia that causes her to lose the ability to create new memories. Amelia struggles with accepting this circumstance, and becomes erratic and angry as a result. When the two cross paths in a chance encounter, Amelia confronts Adam, causing them both to gain new perspectives on their individual situations.
“The Internet is Distract- Oh Look, A Kitten” is a boisterous one act, written by Ian McWethy, that is sure to entertain. This show, directed by junior Zach DeAlmo, assistant directed by junior Gabriella Gagnon, and advised by Mrs. Erin Andersen, revolves around Micah, played by senior Stephanie Hawkins, a teenage girl finishing a book report in the morning before she heads to school. When she goes online to look up some last-minute facts, she is distracted by her best friend, Taylor, played by sophomore Ethan Gannon, who wants to play stupid internet games, and by Google, played by senior Amrita Adak. Under the constant eye of her mom, played by sophomore Abby McCally, will Micah be able to finish her report in time, or will the internet reprogram Micah’s brain?
The audience will vote electronically for their favorite actor and actress in each play and their favorite play overall. In addition, judges will choose the distinguished performances in each play and overall awards for best actor, best actress, best techie, and best director in the Festival will be given.
Tickets are $15.00 for adults, and $12.00 for high school and younger students, and senior citizens.
