The Hawks and the Eagles annual Thanksgiving-break game will be played on November 21 at Fenway Park.

Westwood, MA – The Xaverian Hawks football team will take on the St. John???s Prep Eagles at Fenway Park on Wednesday, November 21, at 5:00 p.m. The game is scheduled as part of a four-game high school football series at Fenway. Eight local high schools will compete over two days in a pair of doubleheaders at the ballpark.

According to Fenway Sports Management (FSM), ???High school football games were commonly played at Fenway Park in the early 20th century. The ballpark also hosted the 1912 high school national championship game when Everett was defeated by Oak Park, IL. High school football wasn???t played at Fenway again until 1935, when a series of games were held featuring high schools from around Boston. After an 80-year absence, high school football returned to Fenway Park in November 2015.???

St. John???s Prep and Xaverian played as part of this 2015 return to football at the ballpark, and will be back this year for their second appearance in the Fenway high school football series.

???As a fellow Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School, we enjoy a special camaraderie and a good-spirited athletic rivalry with St. John???s Prep,??? said Brother Daniel Skala, C.F.X. (Westwood). ???Any opportunity to play at the famed Fenway Park is exciting, but for both of our schools to be able to play there twice in one year (in April for the ALS Awareness baseball game and now again for Thanksgiving Football) is exceptional. We are grateful that so many of our student-athletes will enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We look forward to seeing many in the Xaverian community at Fenway, from current families to alumni, and to another exciting chapter as the Hawks and the Eagles battle for control of our shared Brother William Drinan, C.F.X. trophy.???

The Hawks and the Eagles have enjoyed the Thanksgiving matchup since 1992. The Brother William Drinan, C.F.X. trophy (named after the Xaverian Brother, William Drinan, who served as head of school at Xaverian and subsequently at St. John???s Prep) is given to the winning team each year, to keep on their campus until the following Thanksgiving game.
