The Worcester Art Museum announces the continuation of one of its most popular summertime traditions:?? free admission for the entire month of August.?? ???Free August??? includes access for everyone to special exhibitions, the permanent galleries, and WAM???s August programming???including tours, Art Carts, arms and armor demonstrations.?? Free August at the Worcester Art Museum is generously sponsored by The Kirby Foundation. Media partners are??Worcester Magazine and 96.1 WSRS.
Special exhibitions on view during the month of August include: Exploring the Myths of James Dye, featuring the myth-inspired and immensely detailed dip pen and ink drawings by the Sally R. Bishop Prize Winner of the 2017 ArtsWorcester Biennial, and Radiance Rediscovered: Stained Glass by Tiffany and La Farge, which showcases the exquisite artistry and luminescent colors of recently conserved stained-glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany and John La Farge, as well as other works by the artists.

Tour of the Month Saturdays, August 4 and 18, 2 ???3pm Look at art in an exciting, engaging approach through VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies). This lively tour explores seeing art in a new way. Share your observations with a Museum docent as your guide. Tour begins in the Lancaster Welcome Center. Zip Tours Saturdays, 1pm; 20-minute, fast-paced views of one artist, artwork, or theme. August 11: Model of a Ball Game, Nayarit, Mexico August 18: Lady Warwick and Her Son, John Singer Sargent August 25: The Pregnant Woman, Otto Dix Curator Tour Thursday, August 16 at 2pm Join us for an enlightening tour led by Erin Corrales-Diaz, WAM???s Assistant Curator of American Art. This 45-minute tour will focus on our Radiance Rediscovered: Stained Glass by Tiffany and La Farge exhibition. Stroller Tours Wednesdays, 10:30-11:15am August 1: Water Everywhere August 8: Animal Tales August 15: Pattern August 22: Statues August 25: Paw Prints at WAM It’s never too early to visit the Worcester Art Museum to start learning about art! This tour is designed for children 0-3 years old, their siblings, and their parents, grandparents, or guardians. A Museum teacher will engage caretakers and their infants and toddlers with art and stories in the galleries.??Stroller access to Lancaster Welcome Center is through our Tuckerman Street Entrance. For All Ages Family Tour Saturdays, 10:30-11am Explore the Museum galleries with your family in a docent-guided discovery tour. Hear fun facts, stories, and enjoy sharing observations and time together. Tours last approximately 30 minutes. Drawing Center Salisbury Hall, 2nd Floor Visit our drop-in drawing center, where you can sketch one of four Helmets, use coloring sheets, or just use your imagination. Explore our interactive, hands-on art carts. Touch materials, draw or build, and discover the world through art at these activity centers. Led by our fun, knowledgeable educators, these lively informal gallery get-togethers are for all ages. Ask our friendly docents what activity will be on tap today! Saturday, August 4 at 11:30am and 2pm Wednesdays, August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 at 2:30pm Join us for this fun interactive program, and learn all about different kinds of arms and armor used by knights and soldiers, including Roman soldiers, Norse warriors, Medieval knights, samurai, and beyond Helmutt???s Summer Vacation Have you met Helmutt? He???s an armor-wearing board hound statue, and WAM???s mascot. This summer Helmutt will take a vacation in the Museum visiting different works of art each week. See if you can find Helmutt each time you visit WAM! | About the Worcester Art Museum
Founded in 1896, the Worcester Art Museum???s encyclopedic 38,000 piece collection covers 51 centuries of art. Highlights include the Medieval Chapter House, Renaissance Court, and Worcester Hunt Mosaic, as well as the recently integrated John Woodman Higgins Armory Collection of arms and armor. The Museum is internationally known for its collection of European and American art. It was the first in America to acquire paintings by Monet and Gauguin and one of the first to exhibit photography as fine art. As the one of the first U.S. museums to focus on collaborating with local schools, it has been at the forefront of engaging audiences and giving them a meaningful and personal experience for over a century. The Worcester Art Museum, located at 55 Salisbury Street in Worcester, MA, is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and every third Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $16 for adults, $6 for children 4-17, $14 for seniors 65+, and $14 for college students with ID.
