WAM???s Spring Community Day takes place Sunday, April 15
Annual event highlights heroes and villains throughout history
Worcester, MA ??? March 26, 2018 ???The Worcester Art Museum???s annual Spring Community Day focuses on the theme of ???Heroes and Villains??? with a full day of interactive programs for all ages.?? This popular event takes place Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 10am to 4pm and is free with Museum admission.
Whatever form heroes take???from characters with superhuman powers to ordinary people who act heroically in extraordinary times???they always spark the imagination and stir the heart.?? WAM???s Spring Community Day spotlights a wide variety of heroes, as well as their inevitable counterparts???villains???from throughout history, cultures, and galaxies. Programs scheduled throughout the day include meeting Queen Elizabeth I, the iconic heroine in European history; a presentation on heroes and villains in ancient Greece and Rome; live arms and armor demonstrations, including a reenacted duel between Italian noblewoman Caterina Sforza and a Borgia minion; a Samurai martial arts presentation; a lightsaber battle between Light and Dark; and a guided tour of heroes and villains in works of art throughout the Museum galleries.
A highlight of the day will be Star Wars costumed re-enactors of the New England Garrison of the 501st Legion (https://www.501neg.com/) and The Rebel Legion (http://www.rebellegion.com/).?? From 10am to 12pm, Star Wars characters, representing those with and without ???The Force,??? will interact with visitors and pose for photographs. ??
Activities for families also include drop-in art-making, a Star Wars Creature Feature Scavenger hunt, try-on medieval armor, a ???meet and greet??? with the Worcester Fire Department and Operation Delta Dog, a nonprofit organization that trains service dogs for veterans. GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Worcester Art Museum, located at 55 Salisbury Street in Worcester, Mass., is open Wednesday through Friday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm; Saturday from 10am to 5pm; and every third Thursday from 11am to 8pm. Admission is $16 for adults, $6 for children 4-17, $14 for seniors 65+, $14 for college students with ID.?? Members and children under 4 are free.??
