Executive Director
The Literacy Center is seeking an experienced Executive Director to begin in June. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors, and be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization, inclusive of grant writing and fundraising, strategic planning, Board relations, community relations, human resource management, financial management, client advocacy, and volunteer interactions. In addition to managerial responsibilities, the Executive Director drives the strategic vision for the services we provide and is our public advocate in the communities we serve.
This is a full-time position that requires flexibility to work some evenings and weekends. The compensation range is $55,000 – 65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include 5 weeks paid time bank and a Simple IRA.
The Literacy Center is a 501(c) private non-profit organization that provides literacy services and educational support to adults seeking to acquire the skills needed to attain personal and employment goals.
Responsibilities include:
Fundraising through grant writing, coordination of fundraising events (40%)
Identify and apply for funding related to adult education, adult literacy and workforce education projects
Maintain, cultivate and nurture existing donor relationships
Conduct directed outreach to potential future donors
Seek major donor prospects to present to board members for solicitation
Support all special-event planning for the organization, including development of promotional material
Staff and program supervision (20%)
Provide leadership, supervision and managerial oversight for staff
Manage programmatic activities across multiple programs and projects
Design and implement programs and projects with proven results
Create organization-wide policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations
Seek professional development opportunities for board members and staff
Supervise and implement educational technology plan
Recruit, employ, and manage staff
Perform program evaluations and evaluations of internal operations
Fiscal management (15%)
Prepare annual budget and annual report
Provide overall management of income and expenditures
Ensure adequate control and finance system in accordance with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) standards for non-profits
Develop and recommend strategies that will ensure the organization???s financial future
Advise the Board of Directors regarding compliance with rules, regulations and laws governing the operation of non-profit and tax exempt 501 (c)(3) organizations.
Community relations and strategic planning (15%)
Develop and maintain relationships with partnering agencies, institutions and researchers, local officials, boards, funders, clients, businesses, and other stakeholders with an interest in adult education, adult literacy and/or workforce education
Maintain an active and current website and Facebook page
Seek opportunities to form partnerships and collaborate with other community members, businesses and organizations
Serve as public information officer and/or spokesperson for the organization in media inquiries
Write press releases and distribute to appropriate media outlets, as needed
Building and grounds (10%)
Oversee building maintenance to assure safety and compliance with regulations
Hire contractors as needed for necessary repairs
Communicate with the City of Attleboro regarding building issues
Assure that technology is accessible and the system is maintained in working order
Education:
Required: Bachelor???s Degree in Education, Business Management or a related field
Preferred: Master???s Degree in Education, Business Management or a related field
Experience: Must have a minimum of 5 years??? experience with education and/or organizational management. Experience with grant writing, program management, technology, fund-raising, and human resource management. Supervisory experience preferred.
