From March 4 to May 4, 2018, Gallery 175 will be showing artwork by six talented collage artists in its gallery in downtown Pawtucket, RI. Using photographs, printed and patterned papers, each of the artists cuts, pastes, and combines images to create clever, intriguing, and creative works of art.?? Each of the six artists, Mary Belden Brown, David DeMelim, Hiroko Shikashio, Joan Hausrath, Thomas Terceira, and Marnie Jain, demonstrate a unique approach and vision in how they use the technique.

Mary Belden Brown meticulously cuts images from magazines to create precious tableaux and still lifes illustrating diverse themes while Thomas Terceira uses printed images of birds and botanicals with sheet music, stamps, and graphic images in his small scale assemblages.?? Also using magazine images, Marnie Jain uses both images and patches of color to build both imaginative abstract and realistic compositions.

Working in an abstract mode, David DeMelim cuts and pastes digital images into transparent panoramas where separate images meld and counteract each other.?? Also working abstractly, Hiroko Shikashio tears and cuts magazine images and combines them with painted bits and organizes them in tightly arranged compositions that, at the same time, convey looseness and spontaneity.?? By collaging hand printed papers, Joan Hausrath combines techniques in her monoprints of sticks and stones inspired by Asian art.

The public is invited to enjoy the art work at Gallery 175, located at 175 Main Street in downtown Pawtucket in the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center.?? The gallery is open daily; the hours are 10 am to 4 pm.?? A reception for the artists will be held on March 4th from 2 to 3:30 pm.
