Seven actors from Rhode Island have spent the month of January in Plymouth, NH as guest artists rehearsing for the Broadway musical ‘Hairspray.’ Robb Dimmick and Becky Bass, both of Providence assume leading roles as Edna Turnblad and Motormouth Maybellle, and Maria Norris plays one of the Supreme-like Dynamites.??High school student Drew Parker, RIC student Miguel Santos, and sisters Natasha and Audreys Rosario are featured in the ensemble
The seven were cast during special auditions held at Stages of Freedom. The show is produced by the Educational Theatre Collaborative at Plymouth State University, and directed by Trish Lindberg. Set in 1962 with themes of segregation and civil rights, the show follows the hilarious antics of Tracy Turnblad, a star struck teenager ridiculed for her weight, who schemes to get herself and her new Black friends onto an all-white television dance show.
