B ONE ACT NA LoveNorthSchools

The North Attleborough High School Theatre Company will present its 46th Annual One Act Play Festival on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 7:00, in the Judith E. Cobb Theatre. Three plays will be presented.

First up, retellings of “Romeo and Juliet” are classic choices in theatre, and “Juliet and This Guy Romeo” is one such retelling with a modern twist. Written by Don Zolidis, directed by Rebecca Lake, assistant directed by Kendal Grondell, and advised by Mrs. Erin Andersen, the story follows Juliet Capulet, played by senior Rihanna Murphy, as she attempts to explain how her life has gone south.

Juliet blames her troubles on the people around her, like her mother Lady Capulet, played by senior Catherine Sales, who spends most of her time arguing with Mr. Montague, portrayed by senior Shannon Collins, over Facebook.

While everyone else is stuck in a bitter fight, Romeo, played by senior Alexander Rinaldi, and Juliet, fall in love. However, everything falls apart when Lady Capulet decides to involve herself in her daughter???s love life, and well… we all know where the story goes from there.

Secondly, “Booby Trap,” by Ed Monk, directed by Caleb Vargas, assistant directed by Jason Montes, and advised by Mrs. Lynda O’Brien, tells the tragic tale of Sergeant Pete Galen, played by sophomore Will Redding, a soldier who leans on a tree stump for a break, only to realize he is stuck on a landmine, and one wrong move could mean death.

The soldier’s life flashes before his eyes, and he reminisces on significant events from his youth that lead up to this moment. Meanwhile, in the present, Galen talks to the Lieutenant who breaks the bad news; there is bad weather coming, and enemy reinforcements are on their way, locking Galen and his team into an intense battle against time.

For the third selection, junior Jillian Allen directs, Sophomore Bailey Hobbs assistant directs, and Mr. Christopher Kibbe advises Don Zolidis???s comedy, ???Ten Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse,??? a hilarious guide detailing ten different methods to help one survive the eventual collapse of civilization.

Senior Max Hillis and junior Amrita Adak play narrators who guide viewers through a post-apocalyptic world where the dead have come back to life as zombies.

The narrators throw four survivors into a number of life-or-death situations, where the survivors not only face the threat of the zombies, but their own stupidity.

The survivors, played by senior Ahmad El-Zeftawy, sophomore Bailey Hobbs, freshman Abby McCally, and junior Sarah Robinson, must learn to survive with the little intelligence they have, teamwork, kung-fu, sarcasm, a little bit of luck, and an ion-gravity disruptor antimatter cannon, in a tale that will leave all viewers rolling on the floor with laughter.

The audience will vote electronically for their favorite actor and actress in each play and their favorite play overall. In addition, judges will choose the distinguished performances in

each play and overall awards for best actor, best actress, best techie, and best director in the Festival will be given.

Tickets are $15.00 for adults, and $12.00 for high school and younger students and senior citizens. Tickets will be on sale at all lunches the week of the show, and before and after school in Room 101 from Theatre Director Ms. Lisa Forsgard.
