Providence, RI ??? November 22 2017

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) announced today that a new art exhibition of works by Christopher Thomas is on exhibit through January 25, 2018 at the Block Island Airport Gallery. The Block Island Airport Gallery presents the work of contemporary Rhode Island artists in quarterly exhibitions.

Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Christopher Thomas first earned a degree in physical therapy at the University of Rhode Island. He started making art at a later juncture, spurred on and catalyzed by a health crisis that has caused him to suffer migraines ever since. His mixed-media constructions are the visual representation of these subsequent seizures and migraine headaches. His designs explore the inner crisis of these episodes.

Although lacking formal artistic training, Thomas was influenced early by the artistry of his father, whose drawings he???d admired at an early age. Deeply involved in his community, Thomas has exhibited locally in such shows as the Aids Care Ocean State Annual Art Beat Auction, the Storybook Ball hosted by Women & Infant???s Hospital, and at AS220. He is exhibiting concurrently this October at the University of Rhode Island Feinstein Campus.

Exhibitors for the Block Island Airport Gallery???s 2017 season were selected by juror Catherine Little Bert; art historian, owner and curator of Bert Gallery in Providence. The Block Island Airport Gallery, a partnership between the Rhode Island Council on the Arts and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, promotes outstanding work by artists living and working in Rhode Island.?? The gallery will present art to an ever-changing audience of local, national and international travelers.
