PROVIDENCE, R.I. -??Governor Gina M. Raimondo swore in Judge Steven A. Minicucci, the newest addition to the state Workers’ Compensation Court.
“Judge Minicucci has spent much of his career in public service,” Raimondo said.
“From serving as a probate judge in Warren to representing a number of the victims of the Station Nightclub fire as a court-appointed attorney, he has demonstrated a passion for justice.
I am proud to celebrate his addition to the Workers’ Compensation Court.”
Steven A. Minicucci has worked at John Calvino Law Associates as an attorney since 1989, where he represented employees in workers’ compensation matters.
In addition, he served as the Probate Court Judge for the Town of Warren and as a Professor at Roger Williams Law School.
He is active in several community groups, including the Rhode Island Institute for Labor Studies and Research and Fuerza Laboral.
Minicucci is a graduate of Providence College and Suffolk University Law School and lives in Cranston.
Minicucci will replace Judge Edward P. Sowa Jr., who has retired. “Judge Sowa dedicated almost two decades of his life to serving the workers of Rhode Island,” Raimondo said.
“On behalf of Rhode Islanders, I would like to thank him for his service, and wish him the best of luck in retirement.”
Workers’ Compensation Court has jurisdiction over employers and employees relative to work-related injuries, whether traumatic or occupational in nature, and resolves disputes regarding workers’ compensation.
It is comprised of one Chief Judge and nine Associate Judges.
