Brown University professor Linford Fisher presents a lecture ???Atlantic Slaveries: African and Native American Slavery in New England and the Caribbean??? at the Weaver Library on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 7pm.?? A historian of early America and the Atlantic World, Professor Fisher explores the interconnections between Indian and African slavery.??

According to Fisher, New England sat perched on the edge of the English Atlantic empire and its people and economy were intertwined with the wider English Caribbean world. At the center of it all were the enslaved people???Africans and Indians???who worked in thousands of English homes and farms. Fisher???s presentation considers the wider world of Native and African slavery in New England and the Caribbean, specifically comparing New England with other English Caribbean Islands to understand the full scope of slavery over time.??
