???Tarde Kultural???: An Afternoon of Culture at the Weaver Library

Weaver Library and the Cape Verdean Museum of East Providence invite the community to “Tarde Kultural,??? an afternoon program celebrating Cape Verdean culture, history, and independence on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00pm in the Champlin Program Room of the library.
Audience members will have the opportunity to view and discuss an important documentary film on Amilcar Cabral, the leader of the Liberation Movement of Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau and the founder of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC). ??Directed by Ana Lucia Ramos Lisboa, the film has English subtitles and is 52 minutes in length.
The afternoon will also feature Cabral’s poetry, an exhibit from the Cape Verdean Museum to include Amilcar Cabral artifacts, and sample tastes of Cape Verdean foods (appetizers and drinks.)
Amilcar Cabral was born in Guinea in 1924 and assassinated in Conakry in 1973.?? Regarded as a true icon of African history, the film provides considerable background to this revolutionary giant and reveals Cabral in several dimensions; as a man, a father, politician, humanist and poet.?? Skillfully produced with a wealth of rare archive footage, the film includes balanced and varied testimonies of important African personalities and a credible recreation of notable episodes of Cabral???s life.
