Senator Ross Announces Community Safety Grant for Attleboro
Senator Ross – Chief Heagney -??Mayor Dumas
State Senator Richard Ross is pleased to announce that the City of Attleboro has recently been awarded a grant through the Senator Charles E. Shannon Community Safety Initiative (CSI). The $68,562.07 grant will be shared with the City of Taunton in an effort to address community gang and youth violence problems.
The Shannon CSI will assist the City of Attleboro by assembling a steering committee using data to develop strategies in areas such as social intervention, suppression, opportunity provision, organizational change and community mobilization. In turn, the city will work with community-based partners and programs to combat gang violence issues.
???Public safety and the well-being of youth in my district have always been a top priority,??? said Senator Ross. ???The Shannon Community Safety Initiative grant will provide the City of Attleboro with new resources to combat youth violence, and is a necessary stride to ensuring a safe, gang-free community.???
Since 2006, the Massachusetts Legislature has appropriated funds to support the Shannon Community Safety Initiative to reduce gang violence across the Commonwealth. The Shannon CSI is modeled after the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention???s (OJJDP)
Comprehensive Gang Model (CGM), a multi-sectored approach to address a community???s gang violence problem.
