FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Hall at Patriot Place presented by Raytheon today announced it will be opening a new exhibit featuring iconic professional football jerseys worn throughout the game???s history on Friday, Jan. 6.
The exhibit, ???The Fabric of Football,??? will open with game-worn jerseys from 41 NFL quarterbacks on display inside the museum???s Grand Hall. Some of the jerseys that will be featured include Joe Namath???s Super Bowl III jersey and Dan Fouts??? jersey worn during The Epic in Miami – a 1981 playoff game between the Chargers and Dolphins that ended in a Chargers 41-38 overtime victory. Others include the jersey John Elway wore during ???The Drive??? in Denver???s 1986 AFC Championship Game comeback win in Cleveland and Randall Cunningham???s jersey worn during the 1988 Fog Bowl playoff game at Soldier Field against the Bears, just to name a few. Game-worn jerseys from Johnny Unitas and Earl Morrall to Sonny Jurgensen and Joe Montana are also on display.
???This is an incredible collection of jerseys that have been loaned to us by a collector,??? said The Hall Executive Director Bryan Morry. ???The list of quarterbacks represented is incredible and the jerseys themselves are remarkable. From blood stains to tears and repairs, the jerseys provide a snapshot into the grit and toughness of pro quarterbacks as well as the different eras in pro football history. There is no other collection quite like this one.???
In all, 16 Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks will be represented in the first phase of this exhibit, which will eventually highlight iconic NFL players from different positions. Collectively, the 41 quarterbacks threw for more than 1 million yards and more than 8,000 touchdown passes while winning 11 Super Bowls in a starting role.
???This exhibit extends beyond Patriots fans and is something all football fans will enjoy,??? Morry said. ???We are excited to have the opportunity to display this private collection right here in Foxborough. It???s a unique opportunity for New England fans to see this spectacular array of jerseys so close to home.???
Each of the first 13 Super Bowls are represented among the quarterback jerseys that will be on display as are 30 of the first 33. Additionally, 18 league Most Valuable Players are represented.
