Traditionally, the Labor Day holiday is the end of the summer, and a time to transition back to our normal daily lives. However, it is an excellent time to experience the convergence of ethnic diversity, important destinations and celebrating America???s workers throughout Rhode Island???s Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park.

Over the Labor Day holiday weekend, consider the unique places and spaces that tell a real American story of how our nation???s Industrial Revolution begun in Blackstone River Valley forever shaped our country???s social and economic development.

Today, Blackstone River Valley is forging a new revolution through being a popular location to discover important community aspects, cultural connections and the role labor plays in defining modern America.??

Come along for the journey and venture to these suggested activities to explore new perspectives of ???the making of America.???

This annual signature event celebrating Rhode Island???s Asian culture offers race teams rowing in authentic and colorful Dragon Boats competing in a series of heats for prizes On the pier itself the Taiwan Day Festival offers a great way for people to learn about Asian ethnicity with cultural arts, dance, music and food. There will also be the popular Dumpling Eating Contest and the Blackstone Valley Explorer riverboat will offer tours to see the racers in action plus exploring the urban waterfront of the Pawtucket River.??

Each year the public is invited to explore the many historical, cultural, environmental and recreational destinations located throughout the entire Southern New England Blackstone River Valley region, spanning from Worcester, MA to Providence, RI.

Blackstone Heritage Corridor GO! Gives all residents and visitors alike a sampling of all the wonderful things to see and do. Join for walks, bike rides, tours, boat rides, paddles, performances, harvest traditions, and more! Area Visitor Centers have free detailed GO! brochures highlighting the participating sites.

This interactive museum, operated by the RI Historical Society, tells the story of how immigrants from French Quebec in Canada came to Woonsocket and the Blackstone River Valley to work the factories, along with bringing to the area their social and ethnic values, which are forever ingrained in the region???s heritage.

On Labor Day itself, the museum is presenting a special day of public programs and tours of the site showcasing varied aspects of Rhode Island???s workers and the labor movement. Contact the museum for a rundown of this year???s event.
