Weaver Library’s??Socrates Caf??

F WEAVER edited

At the Weaver Library???s Socrates Caf??, hemlock isn???t on the menu ??? but interesting discussion always is. Would you like to participate?

The free Socrates Caf?? at Weaver Library in East Providence opens its third season in September. There are openings for new members. Participants exchange ideas in the mold of the Greek philosopher Socrates and meet throughout the year.??This is not a drop-in group.

Gatherings promote thoughtful, respectful inquiry on questions of universal interest, such as these: What are qualities of a good leader? Can you love someone you do not respect? What is life???s purpose???

Two groups of nine members each will meet every other month at Weaver starting in September on the third??Thursdays from 6:25 to 8 p.m.????

The idea for the Socrates Caf?? evolved out of the 2001 book of the same name by Christopher Phillips, and has been embraced around the globe.

The gatherings will be moderated by Betsy Shea-Taylor, a journalist and literacy tutor.?? She will be available in the Conference Room at Weaver Library on Wednesday, August 24 to discuss the process with prospective members, who are welcome to drop in between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.????
