PAWTUCKET ???Today, Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien announced that details of a soon-to-be-implemented property receivership program to combat blight in our neighborhoods caused by vacant and abandoned properties, have now been finalized.

Under this model, the City will be able to petition the Court to place problem properties into receivership. The properties would then be turned over to qualified professionals to shepherd them through the process of getting the properties cleaned up, rehabilitated, and then sold to a new owner. This program is a tool for the City that has the potential to dramatically improve the overall aesthetics of some of Pawtucket???s neighborhoods.

???As a resident, former Councilor, and now Mayor, I have long seen first-hand the negative impacts these properties have on our quality of life,??? said Mayor Grebien of the new program. ???This innovative program is something that will not only contribute to cleaner, safer neighborhoods for our residents, but will also have a positive impact on surrounding property values. The residents of Pawtucket work hard and take great pride in their neighborhoods and homes. They deserve to know that their City is working hard to protect the value of their homes and the beauty of their community,??? continued Grebien. ???I want to thank the members of the Pawtucket City Council who have been very supportive of this new initiative and are focused on these types of neighborhood issues,??? the Mayor concluded.

???My colleagues on the Council and I routinely hear from the residents we represent regarding these problem properties and what the City can do to get them cleaned up,??? said District 4 Councilor John Barry III. ???I have routinely pushed for the City to do more to help keep our neighborhoods healthy and I am excited by the potential that this initiative presents. I am proud to have partnered with the Administration to get this project off the ground,??? continued Barry.
