TALENTED AND GIFTED GET RECOGNIZED
St. John the Evangelist School in Attleboro recently held its Honors Ceremony and over 130 students received awards.
Bill Jost Award to parents Bob Quinn and Donna Melcher
Students from grades five through eight who had achieved High Honors and Honors throughout the year were recognized for their achievements as well as those with the highest grade point average in each subject.
The Presidential Award, which is signed by President Barack Obama, is given to students who maintain an A average and whose standardized achievement test scores in Math or Reading are in the 80th percentile or higher.
Twenty-one sixth, seventh and eighth grade students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. The competition for academic awards is very pronounced, and in many instances, only tenths of a point separate the top students.
In addition, over $3,000 in scholarship money was awarded to students in areas of achievement and service.
Non-Academic awards were presented to students who had shown dedication or talent in a particular area. This year, The Bill Jost Award was given to parents Bob Quinn and Donna Melcher, pictured here.
This award is presented to a volunteer who has given time, passion, and talent, in special ways to the school. Mr. Jost, who passed away over 10 years ago, was a St. John??s parishioner and an active volunteer both with the school and the Religious Education program.??
He didn??t have children or grandchildren in the school or the Religious Education Program, but he demonstrated his Catholic values through his volunteerism.
