The Pawtucket Public Library is inviting young readers to participate in the Kids Reading Across RI, Rhode Island???s One Book, One State community read program for kids. ??
This program, offered in partnership with the Rhode Island Center for the Book at the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, encourages students across the state in grades 4 through 6 to read the same book, and engage in community discussions and programs. ??
This year???s selected book is Roller Girl by RISD grad Victoria Jamieson. Roller Girl, which received a Newbery Medal Honor in 2016, is a graphic novel about a young girl who discovers a new love for Roller Derby as her friendship with her best friend falls apart.
The first 15 kids to sign for the this special session of the Book Club for Kids program will receive a FREE paperback copy of Roller Girl provided through the Kids Reading Across RI program and the RI Office of Library and Information Services. ??Register and receive the free book by visiting a Children???s Librarian at the Pawtucket Public Library.
Best for kids in grades 4 and up but all kid readers are welcome. Once the reader is signed up and has the book, he or she can read it on their own or with someone else. ??All the readers are invited to attend the Book Club for Kids program on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00am in the Children???s Caidin Room to laugh about favorite parts, play a trivia game, and enjoy pizza. ??
Families are also encouraged to attend the Kick-Off Event for Kids Reading Across RI at the RI State House on Saturday, May 7th from 2pm -4pm to meet the author, get the book signed, and visit activity tables from RI public libraries. ??
