Rep. McLaughlin bill would make school bus transportation more cost-efficient

STATE HOUSE ??? Rep. James N. McLaughlin (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) has introduced legislation designed to increase the cost-efficiency of the state???s school bus transportation plans.
The bill (2016-H 8005) would allow school districts to maintain an annual registry for students requiring bus transportation to school. The purpose of this registration would be to assist each district???s bus transportation plan to be more cost-efficient.
???This bill has the support of the educational community, including Timothy Duffy, the executive director of the Rhode Island Association of School Committees,??? said Representative McLaughlin. ???We???re always looking for ways to make our educational funding more efficient, and this registry will go a long way in doing that rather than a scattergun approach to public busing.???
The bill, which is cosponsored by Representatives William W. O???Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence), Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence), Raymond H. Johnston Jr. (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket) and David A. Coughlin Jr. (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket), has been referred to the House Health, Education and Welfare Committee.
