Rickman, as Executive Director of the new non-profit Stages of Freedom, creates and provides programming about Black Rhode Island life and culture to reach a wide audience.?? ???How to Talk about Slavery in 2016??? is a discussion program pertinent to all Rhode Islanders and to our current national conversation on race.????
Ray Rickman, a former State Representative from College Hill in Providence, served as Deputy Secretary of State from 2000 to 2002.??He is also a rare books dealer, is considered a leader in the promotion of African American history, and conducts general and African American tours of College Hill. He is a former president of the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society and was secretary of the Rhode Island Historical Society for seven years.
