Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts & Culture Unveils Newest Exhibit In Recognition of Women???s History Month

??Pawtucket ??? As part of the City Hall Gallery Series, the Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts & Culture (PACAC) unveiled its newest City Hall Art Gallery exhibit, Snapshots of Women in Pawtucket???s History. The exhibit, located on the second floor of City Hall, runs until July 1, 2016.

???Throughout the City???s rich history, women have played a major role in making Pawtucket a better place to live, work play and conduct business. This exhibit helps illustrate that sentiment,??? said Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien of the exhibit.

??PACAC???s chair Miriam R. Plitt says, the City???s newest exhibit is tied to Women???s History Month, an annual dedicated month that the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. ???We recognized two worthy Pawtucket women. Henrietta Wilkie Drummon served in World War I and was the only Red Cross staff nurse who died during that conflict. Elizabeth J. Johnson was also recognized for establishing a resource center that documented Pawtucket???s history,??? says Plitt.

Plitt notes that the City Hall Gallery exhibit also includes a series of photographs detailing woman who worked at historic Slater Mill, provided by Slater Mill Historic Site, and other textile mills throughout the City. She adds that the Pawtucket Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, who own, operate, maintain, and serve as Docents at the Daggett House in Slater Memorial Park, provided historical items pertaining to Pawtucket women in this exhibit. Tying into the Women???s History Month, the Pawtucket Public Library has a create book display detailing the contributions of woman to the nation.

The Pawtucket Public Library, Slater Mill Historic Site and the Pawtucket Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution were instrumental in organizing this exhibit.

??The Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture (PACAC) is focused on the identification, expansion, and promotion of the arts, culture, and artistic features throughout the City of Pawtucket. PACAC brings rotating art gallery exhibits to Pawtucket City Hall throughout the year.
