Roland E. Riendeau - North Attleboro

Roland E. Riendeau, age 88, of 2 Dean Court, passed away on April 3 at Madonna Manor after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Florida (Ringuette) Riendeau with whom he recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Roland Riendeau leaves his wife, Florida (Ringuette) Riendeau; three children, Elaine Paine of North Attleboro, Carol Prado of Mission Viejo, CA, and Nancy Miles of Wrentham; four grandchildren, Keith Kelleher, Wendy Morse, Scott Charron, Gary Jutras; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Madelyn Kelleher, Dorien and Alyssa Morse, Cameron and Madison Charron, and John and Christopher Jutras. He was the brother of Lorena Jette of North Attleboro and the late Violet Cote of Leicester and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Born in North Attleboro, he was the son of the late Henry and Lena (Chabot) Riendeau. He was a life-long resident of North Attleboro, a life member of Chapter 56 D.A.V., and a communicant of Sacred

Heart Church. He retired as a toolmaker from Whiting & Davis and previously worked at the Webster Company. He was a founding member and past president of the Sidesplitters Square Dance Club, a member of the P.E.A.L Club, and CYO advisor at Sacred Heart Church.

During World War II, he served 4-1/2 years with the U. S. Army 3rd infantry division 7th regiment at Anzio Beachhead in Southern France. He was wounded in action in France during 1944. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry  Badge, ETO Ribbon with 4 stars and Amphibious Arrowhead, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, Presidential Unit Citation. He is a member of the Military Order of Purple Heart.

His Funeral will be held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Monday, April 7 at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated in Sacred Heart Church in North Attleboro at 11 o¢clock. Burial with military honors will be held at the National Cemetary, Bourne, Cape Cod, at 2:15 p.m. Calling hours are Sunday, April 6, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Sperry McHoul Funeral Home. Sarah E. Underhill - Lowell
Sarah E. Underhill, 48, of Lowell, MA award-winning photographer, died Easter weekend at her home. She is survived by her mother, Elma Underhill of Millbury, MA her brother, Jonathan Underhill of Attleboro, MA and his wife Lynn, and nephews Jonathan Jr., Matthew and Brian. Her father, Jay Underhill, predeceased her in June 2007.

She was born in Burlington, VT January 1960 and raised in Plainville, MA. She graduated King Phillip Regional High School in 1978 and Endicott College in 1981 with high honors and a degree in photography. From 1981 to 1984 she was a freelance photographer in the Boston area. In May of 1984 and until July 1995 she was a photographer/multi-image producer at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. In 1995 and to the present, she was employed by the U.S. Govt. at the Soldiers Systems Command at Natick Labs as a fulltime photographer and designer.

She has received numerous awards and commendations from both the Federal and State Governments, civilian entities and the Military with special recognition by the US Army Quartermaster Corps Honorable Order of St. Martin. Many of her assignments included work with foreign dignitaries and government officials from both the executive and legislative branches. She also spent a tour in Afghanistan during 2004. Her photos have been published world wide to include Newsweek, Time, Popular Science, the LA Times and the Boston Globe.

Sarah was most concerned with the well being of the young soldiers she encountered. She was especially compassionate for the soldiers who returned home from deployment wounded. Phyllis A. Welshman - Mansfield

Phyllis A. Welshman of Park Street died early Sunday morning, March 30, 2008 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital at the age of 80. She was wife of the late Daniel “Buddy” Welshman and the late Americo Carnevali.
Born September 28, 1927 in Mansfield, she was a daughter of the late James and Josephine (Cataloni) Todesco.
Mrs. Welshmam worked at Bay State Tap & Dye Company in Mansfield for 27 years before retiring in December 1990.


She is survived by her son, Richard Carnevali of Rhode Island; two brothers, William Todesco of New Hampshire and James Todesco of Norton; and two sisters, Lucille “Rosa” Comey of Attleboro and Geraldine Campbell of Mansfield. She was sister of the late Frank Todesco.


Funeral services will be held privately with arrangements provided by the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.

Mary A. Page (Sweeney) of North Attleborough, formerly of Dedham died peacefully on March 31, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family at age 76. She was wife of the late George W. Page, Sr.
Mother of Diane Meaney and her husband, Steven of North Attleborough, Anna Burke and her husband, Edward of Norwood, Patricia Turcotte and her husband, Robert of North Attleborough, George W. Page, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Plainville and Marianne McCarthy and her husband, Robert of Franklin;
Sister of Ann Hulme of West Roxbury, Helen Amirault of Attleboro, Theresa Roberts of Hull and Dennis Sweeney of Attleboro and the late Catherine Hulme, Joan Grattan and Eileen Sweeney.
She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleborough on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass in St. Mary¢s Church, Park Street, North Attleborough at 10 o¢clock. Margaret Mary Elizabeth (Precourt) Chisholm

Margaret Mary Elizabeth (Precourt) Chisholm, the “Best Mom Ever” to Alpin, John, Suzanne and Michael, joined her husband, Alpin Chisholm in heaven on Wednesday morning, April 2, 2008.

She was the beloved mother-in-law of Loriann, Tam and MaryBeth. She was loved by her grandchildren, Amanda, Cora, Hannah, Emma, Sam, Hayley, Andy and Tizi. She will forever be remembered for the easy shy smile and kindness she shared with everyone she touched.

Margaret was born in North Attleboro July 12, 1919 and lived on West Street with her sister, Helen and her brothers, Bill and Ed. While working at Bugbee & Niles, she met Alpin Chisholm and they married on May 20, 1950.

She and Alpin enjoyed their life, spending time on Nantucket, staying on the beach at Whitehorse, traveling to California on the train and enjoying long vacations on Cuttyhunk.

After the death of her husband, Alpin in 1993, she treasured the company of her neighborhood friends, especially all the kindness from Dick Plante. Dick would drive her to St.

Martha’s Church in Plainville every Saturday. He stopped in most days just to say ‘hello’. She enjoyed watching Matlock with her niece, Martha, ice cream with her friend, Cheryl and many lunches with Nancy.


She was an avid golf fan and had the pleasure of seeing Tiger Woods when he played in Norton. She adored her grandchildren and if anyone mentioned taking a ride in the car, she would be in the front seat before you could finish the sentence.


Her love of coffee ice cream will be remembered by all those who knew her.


A funeral Mass for Margaret will be Celebrated in St. Martha’s Church, 227 South Street (Route 1a) on Saturday, April 5 at 12noon. Relatives and friends are also welcome to attend visiting hours on Friday, April 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A private burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery & Arboretum in Attleboro Falls on Monday.

Patricia C. Callahan - North Attleboro

Patricia C. Callahan, 77, of North Attleboro died Friday morning, February 29, 2008 in Life Care Center of Attleboro after a very long illness. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt.

She was born in Boston to the late Daniel F. and Barbara (Dunlap) Callahan formerly of Foxboro. After moving from Boston she became a resident of Hingham and was educated in the Hingham school system. She worked in the one and only candy factory in Hingham and later the Raytheon Company in Quincy making television tubes for all the new TV’s that were produced. She worked there until she was laid off. In 1961 she moved to North Attleboro and became a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. She loved to do housework so she worked as a housekeeper for many individuals and offices in North Attleboro.

Patricia also worked for C.R. Randall’s Jewelry factory until being laid off. She then worked at Technal Plastics Company in North Attleboro until retiring. Patricia helped to plan social events for the local Disabled American Veterans and received a citation and plaque for her work with the group. She was instrumental in helping to raise $1,000 to help build a facility for Chapter 56 Westcott & Houghton Disabled American

Veterans group.


Patricia was a great lover of cats and couldn’t get enough of them and in return they were devoted to her. She spent much time with her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She leaves a son, Richard D. Callahan of Attleboro; two grandchildren, Richard Callahan, Jr. and Daniel Callahan of Plainville and a great-granddaughter. She was the sister of the late George Callahan formerly of South Carolina and the late Daniel Callahan and was a devoted sister to Irene Cosgray of North Attleboro and a sister-in-law to Pauline Callahan of South Carolina.


She also leaves behind her beloved nieces, Donna (Cosgray) Barton and her husband, Everett; Darlene (Cosgray) Brownell and Marcy Lemieux all of North Attleboro; a great-niece, Heather Barton; a nephew, Gregory Barton and his wife, Robin and several other nieces and nephews in various towns and states.


A funeral will be held in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Monday morning, March 3, 2008 at 10 a.m. followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls. Earle R. Bennett - Plainville

Earle R. Bennett, 96, a longtime resident of Plainville, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2008 in Madonna Manor Nursing Home, North Attleboro where he has been a resident the past year. He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (Daft) Bennett who passed away on April 11, 1992.

Born December 9, 1911 in Woonsocket, RI, he was a son of the late Benjamin I. and Mary E. (James) Bennett. Mr. Bennett has been a resident of Plainville for over 50 years. He was a 1930 graduate of North Attleboro High School. During World War II, Mr. Bennett served in the United States Army with the 45th Infantry Division in Germany and was recently awarded several medals, including the Bronze Star that he earned during his service time.


He worked as a precious metals refiner and asseyor for Glines & Rhodes in Attleboro for many years and was a past member of the Plainville Grange where he served in various leadership capacities on the local and state level including Master and Deputy.

Mr. Bennett was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in North Attleboro. His love for the great outdoors was exemplified by his magnificent flower gardens at his home in

Plainville. He also summered for over 50 years at his home in Jamestown, RI on Narragansett

Bay where he loved to fish from the shore or in his small boat. He had a zest for life and a great sense of humor which touched many lives throughout the years.


He was a devoted father to Dianne Reilly of Jamestown, RI and Mary-Lou Anderson of Plainville. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Shaun Reilly and his wife, Candy, Matthew Reilly and his wife, Rosie, Heather (Anderson) Visocchi and her husband Bernard and Holly Anderson. He was a loving great-grandfather of eight and great-great-grandfather of three children. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.


He was a brother of the late Benjamin, Douglas, Harold and Lloyd Bennett and Ivaloo Martin and Theta Wallace.
A funeral will be held in the GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 104 North Washington Street, North Attleboro on Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m.


Relatives and friends are also welcomed to visiting hours on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.. in the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.

Brother Robert L. Nichols - Attleboro

Brother Robert L. Nichols, M.S. of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette died on March 1, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston at age 62. He was born in Southbridge on September 30, 1945, son of Anna J. (Metras) Nicholas of Southbridge and the late Gerard J. Nichols.

He attended Notre Dame Grammar and High Schools in Southbridge, graduating in June of 1964. He completed Pre-Novitiate formation for the La Salette Missionaries at La Salette Seminary in East Brewster and entered the Novitiate in Center Harbor, NH in July 1965 making First Profession on July 2, 1966. His Juniorate program for newly professed brothers was in East Brewster for the first year and at the La Salette Provincial House in Attleboro for the second year. In the summer of 1968 he was assigned to East Brewster and temporarily to the Novitiate in Center Harbor.

In January of 1969 until September 1984 he served at the La Salette Seminary and Shrine in Enfield, NH. After a year

sabbatical Brother Robert was assigned back to the La Salette Provincial House in Attleboro where he has been ministering since 1989.Brother Robert was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus having twice served as Grand Knight of St. John’s Council #404 in Attleboro and Faithful Navigator of the Edward Douglas White General Assembly #0398 in Attleboro.


In addition to his mother, Brother Robert is survived by five brothers, Arthur, Francis, Richard, George and Paul Nichols; a sister, Clara Kachinski; their spouses and many nephews, nieces as well as grand nephews and grand nieces.


Brother Robert will be waked at the La Salette Shrine church at 947 Park Street (Route 118), Attleboro on Saturday, March 8th from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. Burial will be in the La Salette Cemetery, Enfield, NH at a later date.
