RI STATE SENATE CANDIDATE RAY RICKMAN

State Senate Candidate Ray Rickman Calls for a

One Year Moratorium on New Handgun Sales

“I know the fear of living in a dangerous city,” said Rickman. “We should pause handgun sales while we find solutions to worsening gun violence.”

PROVIDENCE — District 3 State Senate candidate Ray Rickman has called for a one year moratorium on all new handgun sales in Rhode Island. If elected, this will be one of the first bills he files as a State Senator. Rickman released the following statement:

“Last weekend, there were six shootings in three days in Providence. It was yet another tragic example of how much gun violence has increased since 2019. That’s why I’m calling for a one-year moratorium on all new handgun sales, in addition to stricter gun control laws and more funding for nonviolent intervention.

I know the fear of living in a dangerous city. Growing up in Detroit, violence and shootings were an all-too common part of my life. Being afraid to go outside is something you never forget, even four decades later. No child or adult should have to live with that feeling.

We should pause handgun sales while we work with each other to find constructive solutions to this worsening gun violence. This is not a radical idea. I do not oppose the Second Amendment and legal, responsible gun ownership — this is simply a solution as big as the problem it’s confronting.”

If you’d be interested in speaking with Ray further about his plan for a handgun purchasing moratorium, he is happy to take your call.
